DAY 4 BAKU SIGHTSEEING
BAKU SIGHTSEEING
We woke up to see heavy rainfall in Baku.We were very sure if the rain didnt stop, we could not go sight seeing and should instead stay in hotel.
We had a relaxed breakfast and waited in the room for sometime till the rain stopped.
When we went down, our driver was waiting and so we started for the sightseeing tour.
The roads were flooded and water had not drained yet.
Our 1st stop was Uptown Park. This park is just opposite the Flame towers. Also Martyrs lane is here. You can also take the finicular down from the park to Baku Boulevard.
Also you can walk down the stairs from the viewing point.
The view from the Viewpoint covers the entire stretch of Baku Boulevard and the buildings of unique design. Then from here we went to the stretch of Baku Boulevard.
After taking few pictures till hearts' content, we went to Mini Venice. But it was closed that day.
Still we managed to click few pictures around the park and mini Venice and then visited the Carpet Museum. The entrance fees for the carpet museum is 7 AZN per person. If not interested in carpets, this can get a little boring.
From here we left to Nizami street.. It was the most happening place in Baku with music, restaurants, malls, park, fountains. Our guide informed us that it would be even better in night. I regretted not coming here before as today was our last day in Baku.
But don't buy souvenirs in Nizami street, it's twice the price in Baku old city.. We bought 2 maiden Tower souvenirs in a shop In Nizami street for 30 AZN, but it was only 15 AZN in Baku old city.
From Nizami Street, we walked to Baku old city. This is a city on its own called Icherisheher in Azerbaijani. Our guide dropped us here and gave us 4 hours to wander around. But we said we will be back in 3 hours. As we started walking around, first we came near Shirvanshah palace. This again like carpet museum is not something extraordinary.. It's more like a fort. The entrance fees for the palace is 10 AZN per person. It is said the holes in the wall are gunshots by Armenians. They even stole all valuables from the palace.
As you walk outside the palace, you will stumble easily on the Miniature book museum. This is a private museum and entrance is free. It's a beautiful collection.
After Miniature museum, we searched for the maiden tower, but lost way and we could also go out of Baku old city through other entrance and we were in a park opposite Baku Boulevard. These places are so close by. We went back to Baku old city and extremely got lost and were walking through all narrow unmanned lanes in search of the tall tower. There are houses, spas, restaurants, hotels in Baku old city. Finally we reached Maiden Tower. We didn't take ticket for visiting inside the tower as we were completely tired. So we instead took many photos there and asked a tour agent to help us to go to Nizami Street. But the lady was anyways going there, so she took us .. We thanked her and proceeded to Nizami Street.
We had lunch at Namaste Indian Restaurant and roamed around in the park and clicked few photos. Then we returned to Baku old city as we were supposed to meet our guide there in the entrance.
We paid the guide 110 AZN for today's sightseeing tour.
We returned to hotel and packed and left for the airport.
Airport was also designed in cocoon shape.
Azerbaijan was an amazing country. I never expected to experience this much fun here.
