Day 4: Yerevan City tour: Cascade complex, Brandy factory, Carpet Museum,Genocide Museum, History Museum
First we were explained about the Cascade complex which is
right next to the office. In fact most of the days when we were picked early by
Yerani Travels and so when we wait for the tour to begin, we have spent some
time strolling around and taking pics here.
In the front is the statue of Alexander Tamanyan who is the
architect of the Yerevan city. He designed the cascade complex, so that he can
connect the old city with the new city. The left side piece is the old city and
the right side piece is the new city and the centre piece is the connector in
the statue.
To reach the cascade complex peak by road takes more time
than the time through the stairs/life. Many statues collected by Cafesjian a US
National are exhibited here in this park.
Few statues are made from scrap. A Lion made form tyres, smoking lady, the soldier,
big fat cat and many more.
We then reached the Top of the cascade by road and enjoyed a
breathtaking view of the whole Yerevan city.
We also went to Megerian
Carpet factory. They explained how carpets are made. We got to see the different carpets that were for sale and also their heritage.
Next we travelled to Ararat Brandy factory. Here again we
were explained about the process of making brandy from grapes. Also the legacy
of the factory and different brandy were explained. Next we were given 2 types
of brandy for tasting with some choc chips to neutralise the taste.
From here we went to History Museum. This museum has 3
different floors to showcase old, mid, modern Yerevan history and culture. The
English Guide in the museum was so kind and explained everything so well though
we were just a group of three. It was very interesting and loads of stuff to see.
Next stop was Genocide Museum. As you walk into this museum
you already feel so heavy at heart just by walking inside. After visiting the
museum, you come out with a heavy heart, feeling sorry for Armenia. The guide
inside the museum explained each and every detail in the museum .If not for the
guide, reading each and every poster and understanding would have taken more
time. Since this was already our 4th day in Armenia, we already knew
about the genocide, as the guides explained about this during our previous trips.
But still this museum offered so much more information. There are films based
on this genocide true story. This is also the reason why more Armenians live
abroad (mainly in Paris, Los Angeles, Lebanon and other places) than in
Armenia. Armenia has a Ministry of Diaspora .Still this Genocide is not
recognised by many countries.
After trip was over and we were dropped off at yerani Travel.
We booked a Taxi to Koryun Street. We did this because, last time when we
entered Indian Mehak in Yandex app, it dropped us at a different restaurant. We
got dropped off, and walked around 200 meters to the restaurant. The restaurant
looked new, fancy. Prices are a little steep to go every day. The food was
great .No complaints.
After late lunch at 5 pm, we called Yerevan Zipline Airlines and asked if we can
come and take flight in some time. They asked us to come. So we booked our taxi
to go there. We went and got ready for
the flight. The cost is 14000 AMD per person which includes 2 flights on
different lines, car transfer from the final stop to the starting stop. It costs
3000 AMD to use their Go Pro camera to record the video during flight. We had a
10% discount coupon which we got at Garni Temple.Infact we got to know about
this zipline only in Garni temple where they had a kiosk. On enquiring there,
they gave us this coupon. So in total we should have paid 15600 AMD, but they
asked us to pay only 15000 AMD.My husband took the flight .After the flight we
returned to our hotel as it was already around 8 pm, instead of going back to
City Centre or Republic Square. We bought some fruits near the hotel. We had in
room dinner as we had late lunch already.
