DAY 5 NAIROBI SIGHTSEEING

DAY 5 NAIROBI SIGHTSEEING

On Day 5, we visited many small places around  Nairobi.

Our first stop was Giraffe Centre.

GIRAFFE CENTRE

The entry fees is 1000 Kenyan shillings per person.
At the Giraffe centre,  there are 9 giraffes each were named and easily identifiable by staff. There are few warthogs too to give company to the giraffes. We are allowed to feed the giraffes and also, as we climb the balcony, we can see the giraffes more nearer. Also there are sessions  about giraffes  by the staff there.

ELEPHANT and RHINO ORPHANAGE

The entry fees is 500 Kenyan shillings per person.
Our next stop was this elephant and RHINO Orphanage. There is only 1 show and if you are late or miss the time, you will miss it.
They call the elephant babies in batches and explain about them, their story, how they were saved from the forest .There is a huge Rhino but its blind and  its not brought out.
The show starts around 10 30 an lasts an hour.

CROCODILE and OSTRICH FARM

Our next stop was the Crocodile and Ostrich farm. As you search on the net, you read about a place where you can ride ostriches. So it was this place but there are no more rides. Infact  there are only 2 ostriches.
There are many crocodiles, different sizes, ages, different types. Also there are different tortoises in the farm. There is a  small pond here. We had a very good guide who claimed to have met our Indian Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi. He explained everything very well in a very funny way and seemed to be quite knowledgeable. The ticket cost per person is   1000 Kenyan shillings per person.

The guide here clearly explained about the animals and their variety.
There are 3 varieties of crocodiles and they are identified by the number of finger in their front and hind legs.
Both legs with 5 fingers is gariyal .
Both legs  with 4 fingers is alligator.
5 fingers in front leg and 4 fingers on the hind leg is magarmach type.

Also the temperature of the crocodile egg determines the sex of the crocodile.
If the egg is hot , it is a male and if the egg is cold it is female.

There are  3 types of tortoise :
Leopard tortoise
Hunch back tortoise
Pancake tortoise

By seeing the back of he tortoise , the sex of the tortoise can be  identified.
If it has a hollow back, it is female.

STEDFAST GARDENS

The entry fees is 1000 Kenyan shillings per person . Here there are variety of birds like different parrots, pigeons from different countries. Also there are different types of snakes. Then there is a separate section for rabbits. There are monkeys,  lions,  turtle,  lama,  crocodiles, zebra, Gazelle.
We had a guide to help with explanation.

After completing this,  we left to Diamond plaza to have late  lunch at Chowpaty. Then we returned home,  refreshed and left to Airport to catch our flight.

Yellow fever Vaccination is required in India, UAE when you return from Kenya. But in Bahrain we were not asked for this card. We researched about this information  and asked few people, but  it was too  confusing. Finally our Airlines confirmed it was not needed. Also we confirmed again with Al Gosaibi Travels with whom we had booked our Georgia trip last year. They confirmed with 100% guarantee that this vaccination was not needed to travel and return to Bahrain.
