New York Tour Day 5 :Washington DC Day tour

We had to be at Port Terminal at 6 am for pick up for Washington tour. We took the Subway at 5 am at Main Street. We reached Port Terminal before 6 am. The subways were very crowded, at 5 am, so it seemed safe to travel.

We were picked in a huge coach with many tourists. We had excellent guides, who explained well about each of the places we visited and also about New York.

Some facts from them:

New York is called the Big Apple due to a previous promotion..

There is a Lincoln Tunnel underground in Hudson River. This tunnel is long and had to be passed through while leaving and entering New York.

Newark Airport is in the outskirts of New York.

There is a Hackensack estuary.

Long Curvy Dirty Shallow River: Saskahana River.

We stopped at Delaware at Biden Welcome Centre for a break. Joe Biden, the Present US President is from Delaware. There is no tax in Delaware.

We were told to pick some stuff for Lunch if needed. So, we bought some Drinks and Quinoa wrap from Prem anger.

We first visited the Arlington Cemetery. John F Kennedy, his wife, 2 children sleep peacefully here with many other soldiers. John F Kennedy’s Brothers -Edward, John, Joseph Junior (whose body was lost in Europe) are also laid to rest here.

Next stop was Lincoln Memorial. I have seen the pics many times. I was happy to be here. Abraham Lincoln is 1 President we learnt about as a child in School. So, visiting him felt more like a must do activity for me. Each pillar here signifies each New York State.

Next stop was Martin Luther King Memorial. All his sayings are inscribed in the wall around this place.

We visited the Washington monument, Capitol building, White house from outside. We only could get a far view of White House.

Then we were taken to the Vietnam War Memorial, Albert Einstein statue. All these places are in beautiful green lush parks.

We were taken near the Museum Area (Indian American, African American, Modern Arts, History, Air Space) and given free time for Lunch and Museum Visit. We wanted to visit the Air Space Museum, but it was closed for maintenance.

So, we didn’t visit any museum, and instead spent time in the beautiful park having lunch, ice cream and drinks. We also did walk towards the Washington DC Monument and clicked few closer view pictures.

After this we started out journey back to New York. Again, we had a stop at the same Biden Welcome Centre. We got few sandwiches for dinner, just in case, we don’t get time to venture out or we reach late.

We reached Port Terminal around 8 30 pm. We took subway back to hotel from times square station.
